What's Really Going On For This Family?

We find out what's really going on in a family of three generations.

True stories handed down by writings and by word of mouth, tell of childhood dramas, the affects of two world wars, and ways of life that have long gone.

But underneath all this we uncover the secrets of sexual attraction, find the reasons for many behaviours, and delve into paranormal experiences.

A book project began after clients would say to me:

“You should put this stuff in a book.”

    But how to do it?

There are so many self help books available, but people love reading stories - especially true stories.

So after three years of researching and collecting stories, many of them told to me years ago, the result was Under the Hood.

Most of my family were not good at talking about personal things.

“How strange since you're a therapist” said someone - a good example of how one person in a family can be very different. The results of this can be read about in the book.

Unlike my family in the past, I go Under The Hood to uncover what's hidden, to learn and understand, and also how to change things.

They, in their time, had no means to do this, or access to any therapies, even if they had wanted them.

"Anyone who has ever been in any type of family should read this. Following a family history through generations is fascinating and the 'Under The Hood' explanations will resonate with many readers. The 'Tool box' section is extremely useful and with fascinating paranormal aspects, this really is a book for everyone."

    Helen Cozens - MBACP

"Under the Hood: insightful understanding about how we relate...we can join the author in a fascinating journey."

    Sue Morter - Art Psychotherapist

"Contains thoroughly enjoyable honest accounts of ordinary people's spiritual experiences of the paranormal. Very thought provoking and insightful."

    Sexually Explicit

    broken image

Featuring true stories from friends, colleagues and clients who want to raise awareness, writing Under the Bed involved signing up to various sex sites and talking to many people about their experiences and motivations.

The result is a collection of stories illustrating what is happening out there.

The stories are recounted as told, and so are sexually explicit.

Sex is but another human behaviour on a large spectrum of human behaviours.

Maybe you are not used to talking about sex or hearing others express freely and you will find it unfamiliar.

Maybe you are very interested in the subject.

Whoever reads it, the main reason for writing it was a response to concern by a professional therapy body. The concern was that certain counsellors - when told by their clients about sexual experiences - felt very uncomfortable, or at worst were unable to deal with it at all.

I hope reading this book will bring it all a little closer to normality.

'She knocked on the door of his flat. 'I suppose that sounds dangerous, but we had met up a couple of times and talked about having sex and what we wanted, and I was driven with this desire.'

Elaine had gone with her instinct that he was okay, and thank goodness he was. She always wore the white hold-up stockings....'

    Therapy.

What is it? How does it work? What will it be like? What should I expect? What should I be aware of?

All these questions and many more are answered as Helen Cozens and Linda Porter share their knowledge and their experiences as practicing therapists for over twenty years.
Plus more true stories, this time from clients asking their stories to be told.

"That first appointment can be very daunting for a lot of people and we understand this as we have been through the process too. In this book we share this with you.

Keeping things 'under your hat' is fine, but not when it becomes too much to cope with. This is when therapy can help.

There are psychological therapies that can give information about how and why, and tools for change. There is counselling that can give a safe space to explore, and discover ways forward. There are therapies that do all of these things, and there are also other supports and tools, which we share with you”

    Relationship problems

    Domestic violence

    Depression

    Anxiety

    Gender problems

    Childhood sexual abuse

Whatever your problem please don't think it is too big or too small, a problem is a problem, and there is help available.

Please email through the Contact Page if you would like an appointment.

    How Sunshine Project Started

Living in Norfolk in 2002 meant beautiful countryside and isolated villages - and these isolated places had a big problem:

“I've been waiting six months for a therapy appointment”

“There's no counselling at my doctors”

    “Private therapy? I've no car!"

"There's only one bus a week!”

“There's no way I could afford it, even if I could get there”

The two problems were cost and transport, so reduced cost, home visits, telephone and email work, were some of the answers.

I decided to call it Sunshine Project; 'letting light and warmth into your life'.

Soon after, I heard a story from a social worker.

A young mum was saying “my baby will have to be taken away.” The father of her baby was in jail for violence and assault but was due for release. If she allowed him back into the home, her baby - as well as herself - would be very much at risk.

She knew she should not have him back, but the emotional pull to him was so strong. The social workers were not going to allow this baby to be put at risk, so she had a hard choice to make.

“If only I could get some help” She said “ I could overcome this, I'm sure I could.”

Resources in North Norfolk were poor, so I decided it was time to get Sunshine Project up and running, and within the month she was the first client.

The reduced rates were decided upon, and she was able to come to me.

    And she worked hard.

After three months her partner was not coming home, and she and her baby were safe.

I still hear from Tracey today, she texts me every Christmas, now leading a completely new, happy life.

Since those early days Sunshine Project has worked in conjunction with many agencies including Social Services. Through email, telephone and skype it now reaches far beyond North Norfolk.

I attempt to provide therapy at a reduced rate with a qualified therapist.

If you are a therapist or counsellor and you would like to be part of Sunshine Project please email through the Contact Page.

There are many different types of therapy, and now myself and dear colleague Helen Cozens have written a book about it: Under The Hat
